This discussion brings to mind a question that I have been pondering for quite sometime.
Is the world a better place for having religion in it? The two people that I hold in the highest regard morally have no religion in their background or in their day to day life. What is it that drives them to do the right thing? It has to come from inside but is it inherent or socially driven? The one thing that I can see is that their actions are not fear driven like those that adhere to the principles of any religion. Society acts upon fear and even the best of intentions are therefore laced with motive and dishonesty. I try to follow the principles of a quote that I heard from Abraham Lincoln
- When I do good I feel good, when I do bad I feel bad, this is my religion.
